This New Startup Is Making Designer Shoes Affordable

Meet M.Gemi, hand-crafted Italian footwear you can actually buy.

All shoe-obsessed women know that it's not easy to fund a footwear addiction—designer shoes under $500 are nearly unheard of today—but a new fashion startup is making it its mission to change the game.

Launched by Rue La La founder Ben Fischman and shoe merchant Maria Gangemi, M.Gemi is offering hand-crafted Italian luxury footwear at accessible price points—finding the medium between the extremities of expensive designer shoe prices and poor fast-fashion shoe quality.

Utilizing family-owned speciality shoe factories in Italy, with offices headquartered in Italy and Boston, M.Gemi will be working closely with Italian shoe craftsman to release well-made—and quite chic—shoe styles every week, ranging in price from $128-$298. The trick is that the shoes will be shipped from the factories to the consumer, cutting out additional costs. M.Gemi already has a selection ranging from classic pumps to on-trend mules, short booties, pointed toe flats and more, all of which come in a variety of leather and suede. Take a gander:
