The Best Loafers to Shop Right Now

Equal parts fashion and function, leather slip-ons work hard for your wardrobe.

Loafers' longevity (the first pair dates back to 1936) is a true testament to their reliability in both comfort and style. Pair a classic option with your weekend wardrobe, or build out your night look with an edgy version emblazoned with hardware or studs. The beauty of the loafer? It's ever-changing. Every year manages to serve up new heel heights, fun trims, and innovative embellishments, which means you’ll never tire of this style staple. Here, New York City podatrist Emily Splichal, explains why loafers are worth your hard-earned money.

Marie Claire: What makes loafers a sound investment?

Emily Splichal: Loafers provide a great way to add style to an outfit without compromising foot comfort and function. Footwear designers are creating a wide variety with great details. It’s easy to have multiple loafers that pair with business or casual wear. They’re also the perfect shoe for a little extra arch support. Because they’re flat, loafers typically match the natural shape of the foot.

MC: Have you seen a shift in your clients choosing loafers over heels?

ES: With a rise in minimal footwear choices like loafers, people are becoming much more educated about the importance of foot health. For those who absolutely love a certain style of shoes, it doesn’t hurt to get a couple pairs and alternate them.
